The day remained stationary. It felt like everything was moving, but time. As Roger returned from his quarters he took time to walk through the ship. Walking wasn't the right word. It was more like examining. It wasn't the newest design, but it wasn't the oldest either. Sleek designs but a lot of space. He was spinning his putter in his hand as he walked. As he approached the entrance to sickbay he made noted of how may people were moving in and out. It was busy, which was a contrast to when he arrived. They had finished storing the supplies right on time. Illiana was moving the crowd with perfect ease. Her blue eyes and raven hair contrasted her cardassian skin. The human features on her made it more difficult to hide her expressions as well as most cardassians did. There was no doubt in Roger's mind that she was enjoying every minute of this. He acknowledged members of his staff randomly as he passed. He would get to know them better later. Instead, he walked straight to his office. He sat down at his desk knowing what was in front of him. This was not what he wanted to do. He leaned his putter against the desk pulling a ball out of his pocket and sitting it next to his computer. He turned on his computer and watched the lists of reports and memos pile up. His mind moved to the program he had uploaded to the holodeck. It was his favorite course, St Andrews. It was not 'just' St Andrews, but the same course set up and weather conditions Bobby Jones played in for his first open. He focused his attention back on work."Computer," He ordered. "List in order of priority."
"Complying" Is all the computer replied. He watched the filed jump around on the screen like they are playing 'hopscotch'. When they finally stop moving, the ones on top all had Captain Briggs on the 'from' line. He frowned and leaned back in the chair. "Computer, remind me to reprogram your priorities."
"It is hard coded in my system that anything from the captain has priority." The computer replied in a dry tone.
"Of course you are." He said with a sigh. He opened the first memo:
Doctor Quigg,
Welcome aboard. I'm sorry I wasn't there to meet you, but duty calls. I'll be calling you into my office when time permits.
Captain Stanton Briggs Commanding USS Sortila
He shook off the message and stood up. He picked up the putter leaning against his desk and dropped his golf ball on the floor. It bounced around until he trapped it with his putter. He practiced his pendulum swing a few times before his shot. The ball rolled across the room in the corner. He spun the putter between his fingers in approval then walked back over to his desk, again leaning his putter against it. He opened up the second message from Briggs:
TO: Doctor Roger Quigg
Subject:Miscellaneous
Doctor Quigg,
Now that you have gotten acclimate to your new [position, I have some things I need from you. I would like fitness reports for all incoming officers on my desk within 24 hours. Additionally, I will be sending my Chief of Security, Commander Photan, to you. Please examine her personally. I would also like you to pay special attention to one new incoming officer: Lieutenant Commander Haemis McTavish. He was one of the survivors of the CRV station explosion, and I promised Star fleet he would be fit for duty. I would like you to coordinate your efforts with Ensign Davanoi, our new Counselor. I will be eagerly awaiting your reports.
Captain Stanton Briggs
Commanding
USS Sortila
This one seemed a lot more official, and that meant orders. Captain's were very good at making orders sound like requests and requests sound like orders. It was whatever suited their purpose. He didn't like this guys. Who in the hell was Commander Photan. As he walked through the ship he had heard scuttlebutt that she had stabbed the Captain, and now he wanted him to examine her personally? Roger did not want to get stabbed by some crazed officer. He was searching through his records for a file on this Photan person in the hopes that he would find any history of mental illness. The file seemed routine enough. He was more intrigued about this McTavish person. how much damaged could he have sustained in that explosion. He noted a message from McTavish himself asking for a time for his check up. As he was about to reply his comm alert blared. "Yes" he said after slapping the open comm button.
"We have an issue." A voice responded. It was Iliana.
"What is it now?" He groaned.
"Its Captain Grant." She said. "He's been reported as unconscious."
"When did we get a new CO?" He said hopefully.
"He's not the CO," She explained. "He's the XO."
"We have to Captain's on the ship and ones second in command?" He puzzled. "That's weird."
"He's a Marine," She said impatiently. "They have a different ranks and...Oh forget it let him explain."
"Fine." He shot back. "Have him beam here directly and I'll be out to look at him."
"You could stay in your office. "She said sweetly.
"Not a chance," Roger state. "The last thing I need is another memo from Captain Briggs. I'm on my way." He stepped away from his desk taking one more long remorseful look at his putter then sauntered out.

Walking though the gangway that connects the station to the USS Sotrila the Chief Science Officer stops at the gate to show the guards her transfer orders. Stepping on to the Sotrila Ushio gets the feeling that she will like this new posting. "Come on Yumiko let's go visit the captain and report in." Heading off to the turbo lift. "Deck 2 please" Stepping out onto the deck you see the image of an Asian beauty wearing what appears to be a dress uniform but this one was slightly different instead of the standard issue slacks she is wearing a skirt and a pair of high heels. She looks around the bridge taking it all in and heads for the Captains' Ready room to report in. Walking to the door you can hear the clicking of her heels against the floor she stops in-front of the door and rings the chime.

Patton had not succeeded in righting himself at all, he’d actually ended up facing planting into the deck plating. He had no idea who had seem him go down, but somebody had and sent for medical aid. He had no conscious idea that he was now currently laying in Sickbay aboard the Sortila, his mind forced him to think he was elsewhere.
As his body lay on the biobed before the medical team, it would show signs of physical injury from the fall, minor lacerations to the face and possible a heavily bruised nose, but he would also show injury from the ‘psychic scream’, although it being from a ‘scream’ likely wouldn’t be known by the medical team. His ear drums would show trauma, and his brain would show ‘light bleeding’, much like getting hit square on with a sonic discharge of some kind, or being too close to a warp core exploding; he’d likely have some ringing in his ears for a little while.
But aside from physical injury, he twitched on the bed as if in a middle of a nightmare, and began to sweat; his head twitching from side to side, and his eyes noticeably very active under his closed eye lids.
Patton’s mind raced, and he felt heat and his eyes burned. He wasn’t sure what he was seeing, as images of explosions flashed by, battles he swore he never had been part of, with races he’d never even read about. He felt hatred towards people he couldn’t identify, and saw blurry images, but heard his father shouting orders in the background. Was his father yelling at him? Why was his father yelling? What was going on? Patton looked around, in his minds image, trying to see what was going on. He felt blood running from his nose again, but that didn’t stop him. He heard the sounds of battle rage around him, and ‘felt’ something rush towards him, he went to draw his hot-shot pulse rifle, but it wasn’t there. He went for his side arm his father gave him, for the polearm his mother gave him, they weren’t there either. He spun, trying to lock onto his ‘attacker’, and was simply met with a ‘huge ball of fur’, of red/green fur, and more strength then he thought possible.
“Umph!” he said audibly, as he lay on the biobed.

"Marine Captain Grant', apparently marines had a different ranking system. Roger looked it up. He noticed just some minor lacerations, but nothing to write home about. It was why it had happened that was the problem. He looked over the report Illiana had given him, and the readings. There was a slight elevation in brain activity but nothing to write home about. Captain Briggs didn't give him explicit orders about his executive officer, but he didn't want to file anymore reports either. Roger tapped his 'comm badge'. "Captain, your executive officer is down here after taking a hard fall. You may want to be down here to question him." He looked down at Grant who had finally regained consciousness himself. "Marine Captain Patton Grant I presume." It was less a question and more of a statement. "Would you mind telling me what happened?"

Patton remained mute to his surroundings, as his mind continued to ‘fight’ whatever it was it was fighting… Or whatever he was fighting… He couldn’t tell the difference at the moment.
His mind wrestled with this ‘thing’, and they rolled around together; striking, counter striking, trying to roll with the punches, then all over again. He couldn’t break free, nor could he break his attacker free. He struck out with an elbow, and dislodged the attacker enough for him to get both of his arms under its neck, as he lay on the ground with it on top of him; he pushed with all his might and was able to separate himself from his attacker a few inches, and he was met with a blurred face, glowing eyes, and what he swore was beyond any level of facial hair that a human being would have…
The nurse, and the doctor, would have both gently tried to wake him up by calling his name, and the first several times went unnoticed… His nightmare still held full control of him.
He struck again, and again, what he thought was the neck of this thing, but it refused to budge. Then, it seemed as if the creature laughed at him… A guttural, truly evil laugh, that pulled at his very soul. Was it mocking him? Again, he heard his father call out; but couldn’t understand what he was saying. Was he talking to him? Was he imagining things…? All he knew is he couldn’t hold this thing back, as his arms burned with the acids of straining muscle.
When the Doctor uttered “Marine Captain…”, Patton responded, part unconsciously part as if he was drugged, with “I am not a Marine… Damn those dogfaces…” At that moment, his unconscious mind and his conscious mind that was awaking slammed hard into each other. The blurred face cleared instantly into a ‘cat’, one of the races known as Caitian; “Bastard!” was all he could think of.
At the same moment, her blurted “Bastard!” aloud and sat bolt upright in the biobed. When he did, and his vision cleared enough, he was face to face with the nurse, or at least it was the first person he saw clearly, which given his groggy state was not the best outcome. “Holy Hell, don’t you touch me you Cardy snake!” and he jumped back, not knowing he was sitting on a biobed, and unceremoniously and in a very undignified way, ended up on his ass and against the wall by his biobed. He’d instinctively reached for one of his weapons, but they weren’t there (they’d have been set aside upon arriving in Sickbay for a medical emergency), which initially panicked him even more.
It took another moment or so before realized he was awake, where he was… and how embarrassed he was going to be…
"Marine Captain Patton Grant I presume." It was less a question and more of a statement. "Would you mind telling me what happened?"
"Ughh..." was about all he could initialy respond with, as he placed a hand on his forehead to both rub his eyes, and press against the remnants of migraine... and to partially hide his face.

"Captain, your executive officer is down here after taking a hard fall. You may want to be down here to question him." The alert interrupted, or possible ended the conversation with An'nux. Stanton walked over to acknowledge the alert and that was the message he received. He walked out of his office with Kate's blade still in his hand. He was barely aware of its presence. He swept past An'nux positive that she would follow. When the door hissed he nearly ran over the officer that stood there. She was wearing a uniform with the blue science/medical trim. It had snapped Stanton out of his trance. "Commander," He said abruptly. "With me." He continued expecting that she would follow him. The ride on the lift was filled with an awkward silence. The new office was quiet not sure what to say, and Stanton had said all he wished to the elder Grant. They all entered sickbay together. The new officer for her part, seemed happy to see others in her own similar position. Quigg was still scanning Grant when Stanton arrived. "I'm still waiting for those reports Doctor." He said stiffly reflecting his current foul mood. The Doctor simply replied with a frown. "So what do we have here Quigg?" He said waiting for a reply.

“Holy Hell, don’t you touch me you Cardy snake!” Was the first thing that he blurted out. Roger looked at Illiana who simply shook her head. Roger's first instance was to use the hypo, but he decided on a different approach. He simply had Illiana back away, and just as he was about to address his patient two people came barreling through the door with a third gingerly entering behind them. The first he assumed was Stanton Briggs he had the pips and the demeanor. The woman with him was another story. She looked both concerned and angry. Her concern was aimed directly at Grant. He still seemed to be trying to figure out what had happened. The woman looked at him as if she was familiar with his current state. "I'm still looking for those reports, Doctor." Was the first thing that came out of Briggs mouth. Roger bit his tongue with a frown knowing he had only read the request moments ago. Roger did notice the third person. She seemed to wear a science uniform, and be curiiously looking over his sickbay. She seemed to be going out of her way to be unseen for the moment. "What do we have here?" Briggs said expectantly. The problem was Roger had no idea what they had. "Sir," He finally spoke. "There are no signs of brain injury. As a matter of fact, his only injuries are those sustained in the fall after he lost consciousness. Anything further, would require testing."

Post by Haemis McTavish on May 9, 2014 21:15:23 GMT -5
Location: Sol, Earth Orbit, Starbase 001, USS Sotrila, Deck 2
Later that night…
Haemis blinked, his eyes darting around inside the Jefferies tube, it was the familiar confines of one of the Jefferies tubes in Starbase 234 he recognized this job he had already done this. He glances both ways down the Jefferies tube; they went on for a long distance curving into what seemed like infinity. The access point’s for one of the station’s life support subsystems hung open in front of him the access panels were set aside and his tools were strewn about, he glanced down at the unorganized mess and the wide variety of tools laying around him. It nagged at him; he would never be so unorganized. Well unless it was a quick and emergent job but this wasn’t one of those situations, this was simple maintenance work. Sitting before him on the deck was a device that very much looked like an EPS power regulator, but the markings indicated that it was a Life Support ODN Relay.
Picking the unit up he turned it over in his hands, all the data and power ports seemed to line up with a EPS power regulator, the size was right but was all wrong for an ODN relay, this also nagged and pulled at his brain. Never the less his hands seemed to go to work with a mind of their own; he picked up an optical data network diagnostic device and began testing the ODN hook ups running through a series of tests to ensure smooth data transmission.
He stopped abruptly hearing what sounded like the crying out of several voices which seemed to echo from all around him, the lights in the Jefferies tube flickered for only a moment, his hear rate jumped as he glances both ways once again down the Jefferies tubes.
He sat there for several long minutes waiting to see if it would repeat again but nothing seemed to happen, just the soft sound of the air moving through the life support ducting, and the thrum of what seemed to be a magnetic constriction segment of the stations EPS power system. “Is anyone there?” he asked looking both ways once again.
When no one seemed to call back he returned to his work, something was different when he looked back into the work space. Something that seemed to be there that wasn’t before but he couldn’t place it, he picked up an EPS Power Diagnostic device and started plugging it into points all over the ODN Relay in his left hand and started it on its diagnostic test, the screen was showing incredibly high flow rates which was all wrong, this device was only rated for a low voltage closed system these readings were for an open flow system like a primary EPS conduit, not something that functioned by taps and waveguides. He shook his head and began ramping down the flow rates, all looked good as the levels came to what normally would be right for a system like this. The screen seemed to glitch as he reached to unhook it from the Relay causing him to pause as they suddenly looked extremely high but then went right back to normal. He blinked staring at the diagnostic equipment. “That’s peculiar!” he said to himself.
Taking a brief moment to reset the device and retest, he was greeted with the optimal power flow settings; it was just safer to check. “Need to check this thing out when I get back, probably needs a good refurbishing!” he placed it in its place in his kit. It only took a moment to mount that part back in place and reconnect the thing and bring the system back online. It came alive with an audible click and hum.
A Kit, he didn’t normally carry a kit! He blinked and looked down at his uniform which was another surprising realization he was in his duty uniform not his usual coveralls.
The lights flickered once again in the Jefferies tube, this time a groan ran through the superstructure of the starbase causing his eyes to get a bit larger with worry as he glances too and from the length of the tube. He very quickly collected his tools and just dropped them into the case without ceremony. Grabbing the hand holds to the cover of the Life Support Subsystems access he turned to replace it but stopped, it was right there. Right in front of him. He could see just beyond the part he had just installed, right past the physical circuitry, one of the very small thermal couplings, and a large EPS power distribution node tap. His eyes grew in size as the device flickered into being and back out of sight. The hatch cover hit the floor grating with a loud clatter, his legs and arms working themselves as he backed away very quickly from the systems access. He turned and started crawling for all he was worth down the length of the Jefferies tube corridor heading very quickly for the junction.
Just as he was about to spill out into the junction the smiling ebony face of someone he recognized appeared. “Everything alright?”
He hurriedly pushed the man out of the way as he slumped into the junction, and reached up for his comm. Badge only to find it was not there in its usual spot. “I think I saw a bomb!” he looked back down the Jefferies tube but could not see his comm. Badge, just the open door and his messy tool kit. “Spatial charge!” he said his chest was heaving now. “It just appeared!”
The ebony skinned man started climbing into the Jefferies tube, “There is no bomb Irish!” he said as he turned and eyed him. “I’ll take care of the mess, go get some sleep!”
Haemis felt an incredible calm come over him as the man turned and started to crawl his way down the corridor. “Gonna go see that blonde of yours again?”
“Of course, go have a drink on me for both of us would you Irish!” he said his voice getting more and more distant.
The sound of movement caught Haemis attention suddenly causing him to spin about, what he met was not for the faint of heart, a man stood but a few strides away his skin and what remained of his clothing hung very loosely from his body, a large piece of metal protruded from his body. The sucking sound he made as he tried to breath was nauseating, not to mention the smell. The thing took a sickening step toward him. “Why did you kill me!” the thing managed to stammer out, it sounded more like gravel being crushed together to create words than actual words but they were clear enough. “Why!” it asked as he moved toward Haemis.
“No!” he raised his hands to try and ward off the man. “Bloody ell!’ he batted away at the flesh and bone as it reached for him. He couldn’t stop the man from grabbing him, he was abruptly spun about he could feel the other body behind him pressing up against him from behind. The room was suddenly hot. He could smell the stench of death emanating from the man behind him.
“It’s your turn!” the harsh raggedy breath spat in his ear.
The wall suddenly seemed to glow red hot, sparks flew from control consoles which abruptly went out, portions of the wall began to melt away, a spider web of stress fractures ran through it glowing red hot before the wall exploded inward pitching them backward, Haemis felt the world spin, debris was flying all around him, he could still feel the intense heat as the flames engulfed them, then the great tug of explosive decompression yanked him back the other direction, he could feel his body bouncing off debris and large objects as it found its way through the maze of destruction. His eyes felt as if someone was jamming metal rods into them as the pressure suddenly changed as atmosphere was no longer around him, the gravity was gone he was spinning. He could feel his lungs screaming for air.
Haemis bolted upright in bed his chest was heaving, he was covered in sweat. “No!” he stammered out between breaths. He slowly stammered his way out of bed falling to the floor, he scrambled across the room backwards very suddenly meeting the cold purchase of the wall, he seemed curled into a ball and closed his eyes as hard as he could trying to will those last few moments away.
“It’s OK Mac! Calm down your safe!” it was a familiar voice calling to him.

As Ushio and Yumiko rode down the turbo lift with the captain and some other woman to the sickbay to see the executive officer she wondered what had happened to him and if Yumiko would be alright. Getting off the turbo lift she stopped and said " Yumiko could you please go to our room and make sure that every thing was delivered to it. It's on deck three if I remember correctly, thank you" she then turned around to fallow the captain into the sickbay where she meet who she thought was the Chief Medical Officer because that is whom the captain spoke to first. She still did not know who the other woman was but she seemed to be very worried for some reason.

Tap
Tap…
TAP, her finger on the wall of the turbo lift.
The ride down the lift with the Captain and the two ladies felt like an eternity. Finally reaching the infirmary she quickly scanned the room. Her focus and concern for her son blinds her, “Fuck your reports” she uttered towards Stanton. When the captain spoke to the lead medical officer. She walked straight to Patton and kneeled down and gently held his face. “Me boy…” she spoke softly.
To everyone in the room she would look younger then Patton, however, her demeanor demonstrated a worried parent. An energy from within her slowly pulled in some kind of subtle gravity. Everyone in the room could feel a weak pull towards An’nux and her son, Patton. Once this feeling was noticed a sudden telekinetic burst blew outward. It wasn’t the kind that would cause damage or push anyone. It had effected just small objects, and medical carts around the pair. To the personnel in the room they wouldn’t have felt anything but see.
Quickly following this unusual telekinetic burst; she activated her bio-armor, the organic metallic shell folded, metalized and grew around her arms. The palms of her hands began to glow to a saturated blue hue. Her arms and hands contrasted her pale skin and white dress. The markings on her entire body glowed and her eyes with a white bluish hue. The armor appeared demonic, however, elegant and oddly non-aggressive.
She brought her hands around Patton’s head; the light enveloped him, this was a ‘Drak’ scan. She was determining what infliction her son was undergoing. She spoke softly, “Pat? Calm your mind. Me sweet boy listen to me voice. Mum is here now, tell me what’s wrong……” The light from her palms made extensive scans and the data filtered to her brain.
The light died down and the armor folded slowly away. “Oh, me boy.” She held him close to her and softly hummed to him. She knew exactly what was happening to him. No amount of Starfleet scans and medical tests could determine what’s effecting him. It was simply a biological and natural occurrence. As a hybrid Patton wouldn’t know what this was and how physically and mentally the side effect would manifest. “Listen to me voice and tell me what you see?”

Location: On The Floor Sickbay…
Patton’s mind seemed to retreat back from the images in his head, and his mind was all too quickly at the moment happy to forget whatever it was that was in there. He pressed his nose tightly, and pressed his eyes closed hard against the migraine pain. His ears still ached from whatever had knocked him flat, and there was a fair ringing in them as well, this prevented him from hearing the additional question asked by the good Doctor, and Captain Briggs. He also didn’t hear An’nux voice. Not initially.
When the pain subsided a bit, he opened his eyes and saw Ann face taking up almost all of his vision. A resigned defeat came over him and his shoulders sunk. “Oh great. I’m dead too…” he sighed, and looked down at himself, seeing he was on the ground, and spoke softly to himself “At least we can be together again…” It wasn’t a whisper, and those around could hear him speak, but it was a very weak voice from a man like Patton. From a son from a man like Samuel.
Patton hadn’t heard from his mother since the Starbase explosion, and since she was supposed to be there to meet him, it was assumed she was killed as well. The Drak weren’t a formally recognized part of the CRV plan and/or mandate, nor Starfleet’s, so her death wouldn’t have been publicized anywhere anyway. Seeing her now, Patton was sure he was dead as well, and was in some version of an afterlife. The images in his head, in his mind somewhere deep, emerged only long enough to be kicked away again, and he thought that his ‘nightmare’ had shown glimpses of his death; which is why he couldn’t see them clearly.
As Ann leaned slightly back, freeing his view, he could see all of the other Officers that were present… A human doctor, what appeared to be a Cardassian nurse, a few he hadn’t recognized, and Captain Stanton… He then looked back at Ann, and found he wasn’t sure what to do, what to say, how to act… As his eyes shifted back and forth between everyone present, he noticed that several of them were looking at Ann as well. They could see her. They could SEE HER! Which meant… Which meant… He clasped his arms around hers, and hugged her to confirm she was there, which she was. “Not dead yet then…?” he said in a voice that began to sound more like his own. Then again remembering everyone in the room “Oh…”
“Listen to me voice and tell me what you see?” his mother said in a consoling voice. Patton began to stand “I see one big jackass, and an Officer not acting as he should.” His humors trying to return, but apparently his body still wasn’t ready, and he fell forwards again, only to be steadied by Ann. When she asked again, he simply shook his head and said “I can’t…”, which was part truth and part circumstance.
His mind refused to let him relook at his nightmare, it had been put away barred and guarded. But even if he could remember, would be want to repeat it, would he want to tell her or anyone for that matter. His father had often said that there was a “damn big difference” between bad dreams and nightmares. Bad dreams you could talk about, nightmares you “… left the hell alone”. He very seldom had reason to think of the distinction, he was surely respecting it now.
Asking a general question, he said aloud “What hit me? I was walking down the corridor and then I was down. Sure wasn’t a migraine, they never hit that fast.”
He also looked directly at the nurse “My apologizes ma’am. I wasn’t myself, mixed with some bad history with my family and yo…” he stopped, and corrected himself mid-sentence “the old Union’s ways…” His father had told him of his confrontation with The Cardassian’s after the Dominion War ended, and the history there… Wasn’t one of Samuel’s favorite moments. But it did start him on the path that led him to leading the CRV.
Aside from his subsiding migraine, Patton didn’t feel injured in anyway; well, except his pride. He looked at The Doctor, to Briggs, and then back again. “I don’t want to sound cold Sir’s, but we have a mission to get started on… I’d like my gear back, and a few minutes with the Ambassador (Ann) if there’s no objections…”
An’nux’s tile of Ambassador was a very strong one, even if it sounded simply formal given her race and their connection with the CRV, and her relationship with Admiral Samuel Grant gave her pull in of itself; combined… But Patton knew his mother, just like Samuel knew his mate, and Samuel had always tried to dull the blade (that power) ever so slightly so it wasn’t wielded like a bludgeon.

"Fuck your reports!" was all that An'nux uttered before moving to his Executive Officer's side. The one thing he was learning about these Drak is that they all an overrated sense of self importance. Since he knew he would still need this woman he let her have her maternal outburst. For the Doctor's part he simply stepped back allowing his patient to regain his senses, what little sense a grunt could have. An was doting on her son. From what little Stanton knew of Grant once he regained his full sense he would be quite embarrassed. “I don’t want to sound cold Sir’s, but we have a mission to get started on… I’d like my gear back, and a few minutes with the Ambassador (Ann) if there’s no objections…” Grant said addressing Staton formally. "None," Stanton answered. "I was actually sending her to you before all of this. I'm sure the both of you have 'things' to discuss. 'Family things'." He said in a cryptic tone.
"Rokujo, with me!" He barked impatiently. As he walked to the turbolift his mind was racing. All this 'Drak' business was becoming more of a distraction than a help. He had new officers to process in, and a ship to chase down. They hadn't even put out yet. Instead of running his ship, he had to worry about debts of honor, blood feuds, and other implied threats to the well being of himself and his ship. Nevermind keeping two of his officers from killing each other...or him. 'Damnit, he had work to do. The hiss of the turbolift brough him back to the present. He also had noticed he was still holdking Kate's blade. It was not exactly the image he wanted to burn into the mind of a new officer. "Not exactly what you would expect from a first day, ay Commander?" He said finally as the lift doors closed. "I can't promise you a routine tour, but I can promise that you will be challenged."

As Ushio was watching what appeared to be a family Reunion she heard Captain Briggs shout "Rokujo, with me!" she spins around to look at the captain and says "Aye, Sir" she walks to the turbolift fallowing the captain. She can see what looks like some sort of dagger in his hand, thinking it odd for him to be carrying such a thing but she just files it away for later right now she needs to get her department organised. As the turbolift doors close the captain finally says something "Not exactly what you would expect from a first day, ay Commander?" "No, not necessarily but I have had stranger first days" she replied "I guess that you are quite diligent seeing as my assignment here was so last minute, I did not expect you to know what my name was. The way most captains react to my abrupt assignment to their ship is ether with confusion or apprehension. So I am used to not having the""average first day"""

"I guess that you are quite diligent seeing as my assignment here was so last minute, I did not expect you to know what my name was. The way most captains react to my abrupt assignment to their ship is ether with confusion or apprehension. So I am used to not having the""average first day" She answered. They walked across the bridge, and Stanton noticed the tension. He would have to alieviate that. "Commander, you should know that I have held every position on a star ship that you can hold. I have been everything from a deck hand to all bridge positions." He said it loud enough to be heard on the bridge. "I've done most things you can do in starfleet, and I've learned one thing: Every job is important. People sometimes worry too much about chain of command, and who can order whom around. That's not how I think. So remembering a name is a small thing to do because if I'm going to ask you to fight with me and possibly die I want you to be more than a rank, and a 'comm badge'."
They entered his office. He carefully put Kate's dagger back in the box he had kept it in. Releasing it was an unburdening of sorts. There was too much anger and death emanating from that weapon. He would not take it out again unless it was very necessary. He got both of them a glass of water, but wished he could serve himself a shot of whiskey. "So tell me Commander," He finally spoke. "Why the CRV?"

Said Captain Briggs. "Thank you sir that means a lot to me. Seeing as most of my past commanding officers have kicked me off their bridge or never trusted me enough to stay on their ship for more than a year at most" replied Ushio. After they sat down in his office he gave her a glass of water and then he said "So tell me Commander ... Why the CRV?" Ushio looked at him for a moment before replying "Well seeing as you would find out in probably only a month and that's only from my first impression of you" She pauses for a bit to make sure she is doing the right thing "I am not with the CRV" She let her words set in before continuing "I am with Section 13 while Starfleet wants this covered up Sec 13 wants the truth and the whole truth ... But I am also here to make sure that you that you complete your mission at lest that is what my boss told Starfleet High Command. I myself was not a fan of the way Starfleet handled things." she sat there for a little bit then added "Captain you know that this must stay between use you may only tell Captain Grant and that's only because he is your First Officer" she sat their wondering how this "man" would react to what she had just told him.

"I am not with the CRV" She let her words set in before continuing "I am with Section 31 while Starfleet wants this covered up Sec 31 wants the truth and the whole truth ... But I am also here to make sure that you that you complete your mission at lest that is what my boss told Starfleet High Command. I myself was not a fan of the way Starfleet handled things." she sat there for a little bit then added "Captain you know that this must stay between use you may only tell Captain Grant and that's only because he is your First Officer" And just like that, a whopper of a puzzle piece landed in place. Ushio may not have known it, but she had just allowed Stanton a sigh of relief. He didn't trust starfleet or section 31, but it was a great comfort to know that they were not in 'lock step' either. That told him two things: 1) The section wasn't influencing Starfleet as it once had. 2)They may not have as much information about the Drak as he did. Starfleet was keeping their presence so under wraps that even Section 31 was not privy to that information...impressive.
"First Commander," He sat up. "I want to thank you for you honesty. It is a rare thing in Starfleet when someone lets their good judgement rule their actions instead of blind loyalty. Allow me to match your candor with some of my own." He said in a more serious tone. "I don't love the idea of Section 31 or anyone looking over my shoulder while I work. That being said, I won't hold that against you. You have a job to do so I won't resent you for doing it. However, you are signed aboard as my science officer, and I expect none of these extra duties to affect your performance. If you have questions for me about the mission, my crew or your assigned duties my door is always open." He stopped to allow her to respond.

The life of a quiet man---
Owen was still shaking. He watched his Captain Stanton Briggs walk past him still holding the blood stained weapon from that 'woman'. That wild woman who makes Owen feel somehow useless. He watched the way Captain Briggs talk to her, and wondered if he made her as uncomfortable as Owen felt. It took all of his strength to stay out of the confrontation. He understood why the exec did what he did. 'that woman' had a way of getting under the skin of everyone she came near. He had worked for Briggs so long that a nod or gesture could speak volumes. He knew that Briggs didn't want him anywhere near their confrontation. Though it was his job to protect the Captain, there was many a time he found the captain protecting him. He noticed Commander Rai sitting stoicly in her chair. He remember when she and the Captain worked together. They were practically finishing each other sentences when it came to work. He still had his hands balled up in a fist his knuckles white. He wanted to leave. This was the most powerless he'd ever felt. Captain Briggs was at home on Sortila, but he wasn't...at least not yet. He needed to find himself something to make him useful. Preferably something as far away her as possible. He refused to say the name even think of it. He would not let anyone control him in that way. This ship was affecting him. He wasn't sure how, but he hated already.

She sat there for a moment to think of what to say next this was the FIRST time any of her captains were so open and excepting of her being with with Section 31. "Do not worry they wont but you need to know that I hold all my captains and my bosses back at sec 31 in the highest regard. I am glade to hear that you at lest trust me some I hope I can earn more of that trust. And while yes I am looking over your shoulder I also have to work with you so I would like you to think of it less as looking over but more as looking from the same view point. And don't worry I am not here to be a mole if I was do you think I would have told you that I was with Sec 31, So you can relax I won't tell them every thing that goes on." She stopped and waited for a reply.

The response was expected whether she had an ulterior motive or not she was not going to 'tell' Stanton anymore than she needed to. He smiled at the response. "I understand what you are here to do and since you were open about it I will be as open as I can be, but understand that if your service record is real besides the section 31 things, I still am looking to 'recruit' you so to speak." He paused to let her digest that information. "I don't know how much you know about the CRV, but we just lost the two men driving it. I don't intend to let it die. I believe in its mission statement. That means that if I do carry off this mission successfully I intend to use that political capital to that end. If I can, I want you to be part of the rebuilding. So understand that I will be evaluating you just as much as you evaluating me."

After the captain finished speaking Ushio just sat there eyeing Briggs over after a few moments she spoke "Well I'm flattered but if you wish to 'recruit' me then you most also win over my wife Yumiko, witch will not be an easy task seeing as she has androphobia. We meet because of Section 31 and she has some strong roots there. But I will not join the CRV without her, you could say that we are a matched set. And if you plan to lead this new CRV I will have to get to know you better and if I like what I see then I might just take you up on your offer Captain." As she finishes she looks Captain Briggs in the eyes and waits for his reaction.

Of course Stanton was aware of the partner, but this phobia would pose a problem. Either way, he had learned all he could. "Alright Commander I will release you to your duties, but I am amending your request. There is one more officer I will mention of your background, but I trust them explicitly to keep that knowledge confidential. I'm telling you this because I abhore dishonesty. I know it is a necessary evil, but I am only deceptive when there is no other choice. You talk to your wife, and be ready this mission is going to be very dangerous."
